How Hearts have fared after the last five international breaks

The Premiership is back tomorrow after the first international break of the season.

Hearts are currently second bottom of the table and in dire need of a win to get their campaign up and running.

Tomorrow they welcome Motherwell to Tynecastle and fans will be hoping they can stretch their unbeaten run at home to Well which dates back to 2014.

In fact, Motherwell have been a good opponent for the Jambos of late. In the last 10 games they have won six and only lost three times.

If ever there was a time Craig Levein needed a win as manager then it’s tomorrow and thankfully for him games after the international break favour Hearts.

So, how have Hearts got on recently after international football? Here are the last five times.

March 2019

Craig Levein’s side won their first game back after the last international break.

They beat Aberdeen 2-1 at Tynecastle in the league. Connor McLennan opened the scoring for the Dons, but it was Sean Clare and Uche Ikpeazu who secured the three points for the Jambos.

The two games after that weren’t so good as they lost 3-0 to Rangers and then 2-1 to Hibs in the derby.

November 2018

Back in November 2018, Hearts went to the Simple Digital Arena to take on a St Mirren side sitting in 11th position.

The Jambos, in 3rd at the time, had a stinker and were beaten 2-0 by the Paisley side.

It went from bad to worst in the next two games as they lost 2-1 to Rangers then drew 2-2 with St Johnstone away.

October 2018

After the October break Hearts were still sitting top of the league when they played Aberdeen at Tynecastle.

Again, they beat Aberdeen 2-1 at Tynecastle in the league. This time it was Steven Naismith and Arnaud Djoum with the goals.

The next game they thumped Dundee 3-0 at Dens, however the mid-season slump started later that week when Hearts went down 3-0 to Celtic in the League Cup semi-final.

September 2018

League leaders Hearts went to Fir Park and beat Motherwell 1-0 thanks to a goal from Steven Naismith.

That win was part of the 8-game unbeaten streak at the start of the season.

A week later they drew 0-0 with Livingston at Tynecastle, then played Well in the League Cup quarter-final and won 4-2.

March 2018

In March 2018 as Hearts sat in 6th position they went to Dens Park to play Dundee and drew 1-1 after Ross Callachan scored in the first two minutes of the game.

A game later they beat Aberdeen once again at Tynecastle, this time 2-0. However, in the next match they went to Ibrox and lost 2-1.
