Lee Clark, remember him? It feels like a lifetime ago he was in charge of Kilmarnock. His year in charge at Rugby Park was, well, eventful.
The highlight (there weren’t many) of his spell was probably beating Falkirk in the play-off final to secure Kilmarnock’s place in the Premiership for another season.
He hit the headlines recently about being linked with the vacant job at Ayr United of all clubs. Throughout his 12 months in charge, from February 2016 to February 2017, Clark signed 13 players on a permanent contract, however if you add loans into that he acquired 27 in total. And out of them, how many were “good” signings? Being honest, only one or two.
So, let’s look back at his time at Kilmarnock by seeing where the permanent signings are now.
Julien Faubert
The Frenchman was Clark’s first signing when he took the former Real Madrid and West Ham United player on a short-term deal. During his time he made just nine appearances where Killie won two of them while he was in the side.
After departing Scotland he headed to Finland to play for Inter Turku. He then moved to Indonesia to play for Borneo before ending up at Etoile Frejus Saint-Raphael in the fourth tier of French football.
Miles Addison
Addison had previously worked under Clark at Blackpool so of course when he learned he was a free agent he would take him up north. The former England youth international signed a month after Clark arrived and until the end of the season.
After departing Killie he signed for Nuneaton Borough who now play in the seventh tier of English football in the Southern League Premier Division Central.
Alex Henshall
Like Addison, Henshall played under Clark at Blackpool. The former Manchester City and Ipswich Town midfielder made just two appearances for Killie against Partick Thistle and Dundee United.
He joined Margate after leaving Kilmarnock before having spells at Braintree and Darlington. He is now at Nuneaton Borough with Miles Addison.
Jamie Cobain
The Newcastle U23s player was one of the 11 players signed by Clark in one day in June 2016. The 19-year-old put pen to paper on a permanent deal after he spent time at Sheffield United on loan the season before.
During his spell at Rugby Park he only made one appearance, that was agains Clyde in the League Cup. The defender is now playing for West Auckland in the 9th tier of English football.
Souleymane Coulibaly
The Ivorian was another player signed on that day in June. The striker scored 11 goals in 26 appearances, which included that 40-year screamer against Celtic at Parkhead.
He left Killie in early 2017 before joining Al Ahly in Egypt. After a turbulent time in Africa he headed to Maryhill to play for Partick Thistle. He is now in Tunisia playing for ES Sahel after signing last month.
Callum McFadzean
Left winger McFadzean was another one of the 11 signed in June 2016. Like a fair few they didn’t turn out very well. He played just four games for Killie, four appearances in the league and the other in the league cup.
He left Rugby Park in March 2017 to Alfreton Town, however he was released at the end of the season. He played for a number of clubs, including Bury last season, before ending up at Plymouth Argyle in League Two.
Martin Smith
The Sunderland Academy graduate joined Lee Clark in Ayrshire in June 2016. During his time at Killie he scored one goal, in his first game, in 12 appearances. Like many of Clark’s signings he didn’t last and left after one season.
After Killie he headed across the water to play in Northern Ireland for Coleraine. The striker then moved to Swindon Town where he struggled for goals, the 23-year-old is now playing for League Two side Salford City.
Josh Webb
The former Aston Villa player was another June 2016 signing by Clark. Although he never actually played a game for the Birmingham side, he was part of the team which won the NextGen series in 2013.
After leaving Killie he signed for Kidderminster Harriers, where he played very little and had loans spells at a number of lower league sides. He is currently at Hartley Witney in the 8th tier of football in England.
Dapo Kayode
The Englishman was signed from Dinamo Bucharest II in August 2016. He didn’t make a single appearance for Kilmarnock in his time at the club.
After Rugby Park he went to Northern Ireland to play for Derry City where he played until October 2018. He is now a football agent with Sports Recruiter.
Nathan Tyson
The English striker was signed in September 2016 and went on to make 18 appearances for Kilmarnock. During his time at Rugby Park he failed to score a single goal.
After leaving Kilmarnock he went to Wycombe Wanderers then on to Notts County where he is playing in the National League.
Karleigh Osborne
In January 2017, just a month before Clark left for Bury, Karleigh Osborne signed for Killie from Plymouth Argyle. The centre back made just two appearances at Rugby Park before he left for Grimsby Town in July.
He hopped from club to club before retiring in July this year. His last club was Braintree Town. Osborne now owns the 24 Football Academy.
Scott Boyd
Boyd signed on a season-long loan from Ross County during the 2016 summer transfer window. He made the move permanent in January 2017 by signing a one-year deal.
After signing another deal in March this year, Boyd decided to retire from football in June. He is now the Sporting Director at Ross County.
Jordan Jones
If you don’t know Jordan Jones is playing for Rangers then get out of town.
